Pipe Repair: The Detail That Decides It
Material choice, argued honestly, because homeowners hear tribal claims about copper and PEX and deserve better. Copper is rigid, proven over generations, quiet under flow, and happy near heat. Its enemies are aggressive water chemistry over decades and the freeze that splits it cleanly. PEX is flexible enough to snake through framing with few joints, expands slightly rather than splitting in a light freeze, shrugs off scale, and is faster to install, which shows in the labour figure. Its enemies are ultraviolet light, rodents in rare cases, and careless fitting. In Thompson's Station's limestone water, both serve well when fitted properly and supported correctly, and a repair may sensibly use either depending on what surrounds the failure. What we will not do is mix materials carelessly, skip dielectric protection at a copper-to-steel junction, or leave a line where it can chafe against framing. The pipe you cannot see should be the most boring part of your house.
